The Hills: New Beginnings premiere ratings: Where do they stack up?
Now that we’ve seen the live ratings (note: there are a lot of people who don’t watch things live anymore), this fell in line around what we expected. The first episode drew a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and around 650,000 total viewers. For comparison, this is a similar rating to Double Shot at Love, which is airing right now on MTV and features two Jersey Shore cast members in Pauly D and Vinny. It’s also comparable to some episodes of Floribama Shore late last year, and that is currently filming a new season.
If these ratings were good enough to get Floribama Shore another season, you would think that it would do the same here … right? Well, that’s not guaranteed. We would imagine, given the locations and the people, that The Hills is a pricier franchise to get back on the air, though we do think on the surface that MTV would want a little bit more of it. The primary thing we’re left to scratch our head over is whether or not the viewership will hold all season and what the DVR numbers are. If the people who watched the premiere loved it and stick around, it should be fine. If they bail, this revival could be one-and-done. It’s too early to tell.
If you do want to compare The Hills: New Beginnings to other stuff that is on the air, this is where things get a little bit rougher. Love & Hip Hop Atlanta more than doubled its ratings in both the demo and viewers on Monday night, and it was also thwarted easily by Below Deck Mediterranean over on Bravo. If The Hills wants to be reality TV royalty in 2019, it’s going to have it work cut out for it trying to overtake some of these titans.
