Is Agents of SHIELD new tonight on ABC? ‘The Other Thing’ hopes

Agents of SHIELD

Is Agents of SHIELD new tonight on ABC? Given where we are at present in the show’s central narrative, the demand for more feels almost like an insatiable itch … and it’s one we’re going to be suffering from for another seven days.

For the first time since its premiere last month, there is no new episode tonight on ABC and the reasoning for it is rather simple: The NBA Finals. The big game between the Toronto Raptors and the Golden State Warriors is taking up a big chunk of airtime, and it’s going to continue to do that on various nights for however long the series lasts. We know already that game 5 is going to cause The Bachelorette to be pushed back to Tuesday.

Here’s the good news, though — even if the Finals does end up going all the way to seven games, it won’t impede on the schedule of Agents of SHIELD. If necessary, game 6 will be played on Thursday of next week and game 7 a week from Sunday. the Marvel series is gonna get its timeslot back!

As for what’s going to happen when the series does return to the air, the #1 priority seems to be getting a chance to explore more of Sarge. His motivations on Earth are a little more complicated than anyone first realized — he’s there mostly to stop an epidemic, and that’s going to be something that we’ll get some more insight on in the weeks to come. His morality is specific — he’s not necessarily going to be in line with much of humanity, but we anticipate that he will be somewhat consistent with some of his beliefs. Seeing some of these play out through the remainder of the season should prove fascinating.

As for what else we’re hoping for…

Is it too much to ask for the Fitz mission to be wrapped up in the somewhat-near future, just so that we get an opportunity to actually see the entire team back together in one place? We appreciate the level of storytelling here (just as we also appreciate the awesome line from Daisy at the end of the promo), but it’s hard to see Agents of SHIELD the same way when the team isn’t anywhere near as unified. Since we have only 13 episodes to work with for season 6, we want to see the team make the most of every opportunity. Also, we want to relish in the chemistry and fun of some of these characters — even if they are taking on some serious stuff, they often do find a moment for a one-liner or two.

Also, go Raptors — we wish it wasn’t bumping this show off the air, but go Raptors nonetheless. (Photo: ABC.)
