Simon Cowell storms off Britain’s Got Talent stage over Jimmy Tamley act

Tonight on Britain’s Got Talentwe had a chance to see a viral moment … just not an expected one courtesy of one Simon Cowell.

What happened? The moment came about during tonight’s performance from ventriloquist Jimmy Tamley, who decided that it would be a good idea to make Simon Cowell and David Walliams be his two dummies. We knew that this would be a disaster, mostly because of the fact that Simon never really loves having to participate in the wackier sketches. This, apparently, was the step too far for him. In the middle of the goofy act, which led to him having to do all sorts of ridiculous stuff, he took the ventriloquist prop off and then stormed off the stage. In Jimmy’s words, this is the first time this has ever happened.

Apparently, Simon Cowell refuses to dance on stage if asked — that is the big takeaway from this. The audience booed him, but shortly after Simon did return to finish the act. He didn’t dance, but he did get into a box with David and that was the end of it.

Should Jimmy have seen this coming? Probably, given that Simon has a knack for not being too keen on embarrassing himself — and this act is really based almost entirely around embarrassing yourself. To be honest, we’d be mortified to have to do this — we love ventriloquism, but not so much the style where real people have to go up on stage amidst public pressure to do that. Nonetheless, if you’re a judge on this show, you sign up to be a part of the circus. You’re getting paid to embrace the craziness and the weirdness of the show — really, the best thing that you can do is just try and find a way to embrace it, even if you don’t want to.

Basically, think of it this way — it’s really not your moment. It’s the act’s moment, and this may be the most important one of their life. While Jimmy probably shouldn’t have picked Simon given his track record, at the same time he deserved an opportunity to finish this. Ironically, though, Simon storming off is probably going to make this a far more popular viral moment than Jimmy would’ve had otherwise. It’s just not something that we tend to see on this show all that often.

Yet, even with this viral moment, we hardly think it’s going to be enough for Jimmy to make it to the final.
