NCIS: Los Angeles season 11: The case for more of Linda Hunt’s Hetty

Hetty

Everyone out there knows that NCIS: Los Angeles is coming back for a season 11. There’s no drama there! There’s already been some footage filmed, and we know that the majority of conversation is about Mac and Harm. For everyone out there who loves Jag, that makes a lot of sense, especially with what happened in the season 10 finale. Why couldn’t they just be together?

For the sake of this article, we’re actually putting the focus somewhere a little bit different. To be specific, someone who hasn’t had that much conversation since their big return to the show in Henrietta Lange. We love ourselves some Hetty here at CarterMatt, and it’s been rough the past year to not really getting to see that much of Linda Hunt as the character.

Obviously, over the course of season 10, there was a good reason why she wasn’t around. Hunt was recovering from a car accident for a good percentage of filming, but she was able to make it back just in time for the big Deeks – Kensi wedding. Now, the implication is that we’re going to see a good bit more of her moving into season 11 and we just have to hope that they give her some really cool story ideas to go along with it.

Do we think that we’re going to see Hetty and every single episode of the show? Probably not, mostly because we didn’t see her in every episode of season 9 before the accident even happened. Yet, the door certainly seems wide open for some awesome storytelling with this character at the center of it.

Take, for example, the fact that we don’t really know all that much about where she was during her time away in this past season. Hetty made it clear that there would be a time when she would open up about some of this, and maybe the time is next season.

As a matter of fact, on the other side of the Mac & Harm storyline, we can most of the rest of season 11 being about something that Hetty uncovered or something that is important to the rest of the team. (Obviously not every episode, but one scattered through some of the season.) Maybe she made a discovery that going to lead to a long-term mission, or maybe this is going to open up an opportunity to explore a little bit more of her path. This is a character who obviously has an incredible history and probably enough stories to last across 11 more seasons. We would just love to have some opportunities to see her in the spotlight once more.

What makes Hetty so unique for NCIS: Los Angeles is that she is very much a unicorn. She doesn’t look like a lot of the other team members, and she certainly doesn’t act like them. She’s been very guarded with her words and very protective of her secrets. She’s someone who you feel like you can know, but she could still have mountains of secret stored somewhere out of sight. She’s a big reason for the series’ signature tone, and with this chapter of the franchise more than a decade into its run, she’s one of the few characters with parts of her we still don’t quite know entirely.

NCIS: Los Angeles season 11 is going to be premiering most likely in September or October, and the best thing the writers can do is give Hedy some pretty awesome stuff right away. With her contacts and with her recognition of what’s going on around the world, she can provide the perfect leadership for the team and, Beyond just that, the right impetus for just about any story.
