Supernatural season 15: Jared Padalecki on possible endings for Sam

So you’ve probably had a chance to hear by now that Supernatural season 15 is going to be the final one for the series on The CW, just as you’ve probably had a chance to realize what that means — more emotions than ever. If you thought that the past few seasons were real powder kegs of feels, just imagine what you’re going to be like when they start blaring “Carry On My Wayward Son” during the series finale.

The news of the series ending is alarming, but then there’s also another question — how do you end something like this? Can you really imagine Sam and Dean still going around and hunting demons and other bad stuff without us as viewers getting to see it? We may have to, as Jared Padalecki tells TV Guide it’s very much possible that these characters will keep doing what they do best even after the show is done:

“I want Season 15 to be a great season, obviously. It’s our last season. But I want it to feel like it’s gonna go on … I don’t want Sam to feel like it’s the ending. I want Sam to feel like he’s still making a difference, that he’s still helping other people. And so, I don’t want it to feel like doom and gloom, too much…I want Sam to still fight, to keep fighting and keep supporting his brother and his friends and his family.”

For those of you who want a slightly more morbid (and depressing) alternative, Jared also suggests that it’s certainly possible that the Sam character could also end up dying:

“If they die–I don’t know, I don’t think it’s written yet–but if they do die, I want them to die going out doing something they love that will make the world a better place … Part of me thinks that’s the only way to end Supernatural. Because if the boys were alive, they’d be hunting, and if they’re hunting, I want to see them hunting. Maybe that’s the way it goes, I don’t know.”

Should Sam and Dean live?

Our feeling is mostly yes because we don’t feel like the Supernatural finale necessarily has to be the end of the road for these characters. Regardless of whether or not there is another upcoming episode of the show itself, there are some other ways in which some of these characters can live on. Think in terms of movies, books, or all sorts of other literature. Obviously, we’d want the story to go on with Jared, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins, but we understand that in written form, there are plenty of ways that Supernatural can live on. There’s also fanfiction, which will certainly exist and provide quite the opportunity for people.
