‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: First promo for Christina Applegate show

Christina Applegate, we get it: it has been a very long time since you hosted an edition of “Saturday Night Live.” This is a point that is beaten down relentless into our heads in the latest promo for the NBC variety show, which features Applegate alongside Jason Sudeikis for what is ultimately a fairly funny (but also fairly predictable) series of clips.

So when was the last time Applegate hosted the show? It was all the way back in 1993 when she was the star of a little show called “Married … with Children,” and a good many of the current cast members now were just starting to watch the show at home for the first time. Since that time Applegate has appeared in a number of TV shows (including her current gig on “Up All Night”) as well as movies (“Anchorman”), but few of them have managed to really bring her the same level of pop-culture impact or critical recognition as “Married With Children” did.

Really, this is going to be an interesting show to watch for a number of reasons. For one, Applegate’s current series is hardly a hit, and it seems like a risky move to bring a performer on the show one week after it hit a season low with a much more prevalent star at the moment in Daniel Craig. However, “SNL” also seems to be at its best when the host is a proven comic actor, and for a prime example of that all you have to do is look at how Applegate’s current co-star and “SNL” cast member Maya Rudolph did upon her return last year.
