Outlander season 5 debate: What could ideal cliffhanger be?

Outlander season 4

Outlander season 5 filming is underway, and we’re also very much aware of the fact that we won’t be seeing the season play out for, most likely the rest of the year. Yet, for the sake of this article, we’re going to be looking far beyond just the premiere! Instead, we’re going to be looking towards the finale and starting to wonder this simple question: What could the final scene be? We know how they just ended season 4, so what would be the best way to wrap up season 5?

We should go ahead and note here that there are no spoilers ahead, so you don’t have to worry about that.

Instead, let’s talk about possibilities here — if you are the producers of this show and you want to create the biggest, most exciting conclusion ever, what’s the best way in order to do that? Is there a perfect ending point that creates a great season 6 tease? Since you know that a season 6 is coming up at some point in the future, producers don’t have to worry about a cliffhanger without a conclusion.

Idea 1 – Jamie picks a side between the Regulators and the British. If he and the Frasers can find a way to keep from declaring an allegiance for the entirety of the season, we’ll give them a lot of credit. That will certainly enable them a chance to stay safe for at least a little while, and then moving into season 6, you can ponder over the consequences.

Idea 2 – The Revolutionary War begins in earnest. It’s going to be hard to imagine that Jamie and Claire are going to be able to keep the British at bay for the entirety of a season and with that in mind, a more likely scenario here is going to be seeing the entire season come to a close with that decision well in the rear-view mirror and some of these characters actually bracing for large-scale war, with a side clearly chosen.

Idea 3 – Could someone leave? Could Brianna and Roger decide to try and find a way to head home with their baby, in order to avoid the war? Could Jamie head off to take part in a battle or a negotiation? This would be a way to set up a little bit of heartbreak or high stakes moving into season 6, but it’d also feel a little bit similar to the end of season 2.

No matter what the cliffhanger is, we’re sure that it will be intense … if there even is one. After all, we don’t think that Outlander necessarily requires there to be a cliffhanger at the end of every single season.

What do you want the Outlander season 5 finale cliffhanger to be … provided that you even want one? Be sure to share right now in the comments.
