The Flash season 5 episode 21 preview: The Cicada II showdown

Cicada

Per some of the earliest information that we’ve got regarding The Flash season 5 episode 21, one thing feels clear: A showdown is nigh. Unfortunately for Barry and the members of Team Flash, it may not be as cut-and-dry of a showdown as anyone would have liked.

Just a few episodes ago, you would have assumed that Nora West-Allen was fully on the side of The Flash, simply because there was no real reason for her to not be. Moving into this episode, things are a tad different. The title here of “The Girl with the Red Lighting” is a pretty indicator as to why. We’re talking about Nora based on what we know about the Negative Speed Force, and this suggests strongly that it is not going to be out of her system at the time in which this installment comes on the air.

Trying to bring Nora back to the good team could be one struggle within this episode. The other one is rather simple: Trying to stop Cicada II from completely destroying all meta-humans in the world. It’s her biggest, boldest stunt so far, and it’s one that The Flash may only have a small amount of time in order to execute. We have to hope that there’s going to be a smart plan here … and that Team Flash isn’t going to be too distracted with some issues elsewhere.

Below, CarterMatt has for you the official The Flash season 5 episode 21 synopsis with more news about what’s coming:

CICADA II MAKES HER MOVE – Team Flash is on high alert after Cicada II (guest star Sarah Carter) threatens to unleash a dangerous virus that would put all meta-humans at risk. Stefan Pleszczynski directed the episode written by Judalina Neira & Thomas Pound (#521). Original airdate 5/7/2019.

Be sure to head over to the link here! That’s where you can get some news about the finale, which is going to feature arguably the biggest Reverse-Flash showdown we’ve seen in some time. Consider this all the evidence you need that we’ve been building towards something here with Thawne for some time.

What does seem so interesting about this season, at least based on some of the information that we’ve got right now, is that it’s almost got one Big Bad encased within another. It’s possible that the story of Cicada could be tied up within this penultimate episode, and that leads to Eobard really rising to prominence in an epic finale showdown like no other. We’ll still waiting for a little bit more in the way of information at the moment, including on if there are some more connections between Eobard and Cicada II than we know. We know that this is a guy who loves to play the long game, so it’s certainly possible that he’s been duplicitous for a rather long time.
