The Durrells season 4 episode 5 preview: Louisa, Spiros drama galore

Durrells

Next week, The Durrells season 4 episode 5 is set to air on ITV and for the time being, it’s easy to point out some of the bad news: We’re almost at the end of the road for this family and all of their hijinks. There are two episodes left and through those, we should get a chance to see whether or not Louisa, Gerry, Leslie, and others can really find a home for themselves in Corfu … and whether they have something greater waiting for them in the future.

Entering episode 5, one of the things that we do know with some confidence is that the Louisa – Spiros story is heating up … but it could also take a massive turn for the worse. It’s pretty easy at this point to label Spiros a hypocrite, given that he’s spent so much time giving Louisa false hope about their future while also being married. Then, he also gets upset over the idea of Dimitra being with someone else. Basil is clearly getting close with her, and it’s starting to seem like Spiros believes that the Durrells are involved in this new “arrangement” with a wife. (As it turns out, that’s true — blame Leslie for that.)

At the end of the preview tonight, Spiros claims that if Louisa or someone else is responsible for what’s happening with his wife, it’s going to be hard to forgive them. Well, that’s not good, is it? We do still think that Spiros needs to look in the mirror for a moment or two, but we’ll see where this story goes.

On a lighter note, be prepared for some more cultural celebration and fun in Corfu next week courtesy of the arrival of some Royals … and also the exciting return of Margo! while she tried her hand at being a governess elsewhere, let’s be honest that it wouldn’t have been anywhere near as exciting to see that character separate from the rest of the her family for the remainder of this season. Overall, it would’ve made the whole story feel somewhat incomplete. We want a happy, entertaining ending for these characters where the family is together — really no matter where they are.

Do we remain sad that The Durrells is ending?

Very much so, mostly because it does still feel like this is a show that could have lasted for a little while longer — because it is a story largely about a family, we don’t think that the Durrells are suddenly going to get boring! It’s a show based on heart and the love that these people have for each other, and these are themes that will not be going away anytime soon.
