Queen of the South season 4 has an official premiere date
Earlier this week, the network unveiled that season 4 is going to be premiering this June, though clearly, they are not at the point of announcing a premiere date proper. That will probably come next month. What we do have, though, is a retrospective that gives you a good sense of Teresa’s intense journey to date. It’s one that is stuffed full of all sorts of highs and lows, but we’re hoping that there’s at least a little bit more stability for her moving forward … even if there’s a ton of craziness that will inevitably surround her. (There’s always gonna be a little bit of chaos in a show like this — it’s hard to imagine anything else going down.)
There are a lot of different things that Queen of the South has going for it, with one of the principal ones being its overall success in the ratings. We’re talking here about a show that is one of the steadiest out there — this past season ended up generating on average a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is only a drop of 4% from the season prior. If USA gets this same sort of performance out of season 4, they will be doing jumping jacks out of their nearest office. This is really the sort of thing that every network would want from one of their shows!
Creatively, the biggest challenge entering season 4 is simply one of momentum — how do you keep this story going in the way in which it is? There’s also the underdog factor that you have to think about here — namely, you want Teresa to be an underdog, but you also want to see an ascension. How do you balance those two things out? You want her to be the queen, but you also don’t want to make her so high up on the food chain that nobody can touch her. There has to be a conflict with a show like this and it is certainly a challenging balancing act, to say the least.
Hopefully, we’ll come bearing a little more insight on season 4 before long, including some more firm details as to what you can expect to see.
