Could Arrow season 7 lead to Katherine McNamara spin-off show?

Arrow

At this point, it’s 100% known that Arrow season 8 is going to be the final one for the series on The CW. Beyond that, though, the future for some of these characters remains unclear. Is there another way to feature them after the main series ends?

When it comes to characters like Black Canary or John Diggle, there’s an easy solution — just give them appearances here and there on the other Arrowverse shows! For people like Mia or older William, that’s a little bit more difficult. It’s not the same time period and because of that, we think that it’d be a little bit harder to feature some of these characters.

So is there a way to bring back Katherine McNamara on her own spin-off, or maybe throw some of these characters into another show? (We’ve thought a little bit about a Next Generation idea with Nora West-Allen included, though her timeline from The Flash is a good handful of years later than the Star City we’ve seen on Arrow in the flash-forwards.) For now, it seems as though Arrow is at least keeping some options open, based on what executive producer Beth Schwartz had to say via TVLine:

“[The future timeline] was definitely meant to grow the world that we had already built and to see the next generation of what Oliver and Felicity and our present-day team have worked so hard for, and sort of see what happens in the future … We love those characters and would love to see them go on in some capacity after the show’s over.”

Personally, we think that one of the best ways forward for the entire Arrowverse on The CW is to eventually move towards a number of limited series, or at least shows that air for shorter runs that cover a lot of different ground. We could see a good eight-episode Arrow: The Next Generation series happening at some point in the future, and it could be something that McNamara and some of these cast members could balance out with other projects that they are taking on.

In the immediate future, it seems like the plans for the Arrowverse are easy to define — Batwoman will help to fill the void left by Arrow and as some other shows wrap up, maybe something about these future characters could enter the picture. Other options for The CW include looking towards Green Lantern, Blue Beetle, or some other reasonably-known character that isn’t getting a lot of burn in the movie world at the moment. We’re just spitballing when it comes to ideas at the moment, but these are certainly interesting things worth thinking about.
