MacGyver (Mac & Riley) vs. Manifest (Jared & Michaela) – Crime Dynamic Duos 2019

Duos

Welcome to CarterMatt’s Crime Dynamic Duos for 2019! The goal for this tournament is pretty easy to explain: Recognizing some of the best crimefighters in all of television. The word “crimefighter” can at times have a loose interpretation, but for the sake of this tournament we’re referring to it mostly as cops, lawyers, or investigators who do their best to take down some pretty-bad people and fight to help others. They’re the sort of characters you typically admire, and they have an aspirational quality to them along with them being entertaining.

This battle is the second one of today, and what we like to think of this one as is characters who work with each other to solve problems in a bit of a non-traditional manner. With Mac & Riley from MacGyver, for example, they aren’t exactly cops at all; yet, without them it would be almost impossible to take down some of the most difficult targets from all over the world. They’ve got a tough job but with a little bit of determination/the right amount of effort, they find a way in order to figure it out. They’re up here against Michaela & Jared from Manifest, another set of new entries who are cops in much more of a traditional sense. Yet, with Michaela’s Callings, it’s hard to really say that there methods are anywhere close to ordinary.

If you’ve been around for past editions of Crime Dynamic Duos, then you know a thing or two about how this works — at the bottom of this article is a poll to vote for who you want to see advance! One duo will, and at the end of the month, we’ll officially crown the champion in all of their glory.

How voting works – Vote however often you would like! (Technical instructions for multiple voting can be found right above the poll.) We will keep this poll open until Friday, April 12 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. The winner here will battle either Reddington & Liz from The Blacklist or Andy & Ryan from Station 19 — no matter what happens, we’re just psyched about the fact that there are so many unique duos doing battle in this particular part of the first round.

You can see the full bracket (including start dates for each individual round) in the graphic at the top of this article.

The competitors

Mac & Riley, MacGyver (#4 seed) – In past years, Mac was paired off in Crime Dynamic Duos with Jack Dalton, which of course made sense back before George Eads departed the show. Now, we’re obviously dealing with a different set of characters on that show and there were a lot of different ways in which we could’ve gone with pairing off Mac. It just felt like Desi was a little bit too new for inclusion right now, and to us there’s always been something really fun about whenever Mac and Riley work together. While their skill sets are certainly different, we feel like both of them are the very best at what they do. That’s the sort of thing that makes an organization like the Phoenix extremely lucky to have them.

In the past, Mac and Jack have performed reasonably well in Dynamic Duos, but never so well that inched close to the final rounds. Will it be different this time? Only time will tell…

Michaela & Jared, Manifest (#5 seed) – With Michaela & Jared, meanwhile, you have arguably one of the most notable duos to show up during the 2018-19 television season, characters who are exceptional at their job, but also characters with their fair share of distractions. Despite everything that they have gone through, however, we still saw a number of flashes of how strong of a partnership that they are. Michaela didn’t need Callings to be able to problem-solve and get to the bottom of mysteries. She just needed to be perceptive.

Obviously, these two have a pretty-messy personal life at the moment, but depending on what happens on the other side of the cliffhanger (and provided that we get a season 2, which seems likely), there could be more great stuff on the horizon. Hopefully, it’ll mean more for these two personally and professionally!

How can I vote more than once? – Just refresh the page! If you are having trouble casting multiple votes, try switching your browser, your device, or visiting the page under private browsing or incognito mode. There should be many handy guides online explaining how to do so if interested.
