Let’s start here by getting the unfortunate news out of the way first: There is no new episode airing next week. Why is that? Think in terms of the Academy of Country Music Awards. That’s an annual CBS tradition and with that in mind, every show is going to be on a little bit of a break. It’s just a little weird for this one to have a hiatus so close to the finale … and for what reason? What does this mean in terms of its ratings for the finale? At least it does already have a season 2 renewal in the can.
So what do we want to see in the finale? We don’t actually think that there will be some sort of clear, concise answer on the God Account — we’re not entirely sure that there will ever be one. This really is a “what matters is the friends we made along the way” sort of situation. There’s no answer to this mystery that is going to satisfy everyone, and because of that, we don’t think that the show should go too crazy hyping all of that up.
What we’re hoping for instead is a twist — season 1 has spent so much time focusing on Simon Hayes as the person responsible for the God Account that the writers could shift the focus a little bit elsewhere. Maybe that means putting more of the focus on Henry Chase or a new candidate altogether.
As for relationships, obviously we want to see Miles and Cara keep things going now that the two of them clearly have deep feelings for each other. They care about each other in a way that they will probably never really care about anyone and because of that, it’s hard to imagine the writers coming up with some other sort of love interest that is going to be anywhere near as magnetic or incredible for either of these characters.
We’ll talk more about possible season 2 storylines and expectations after the finale, both in terms of article and video form. For now, just enjoy the remainder of this crazy, oft-inspiring ride. There are few other shows that are bringing you this precise combination of stuff.
