TV Madness 2019: Outlander, Blindspot kick off the final four!

Madness

TV Madness 2019 is officially upon us! March is one of our favorite times of the year for many reasons — spring is in the air, the days are getting longer, and the idea of a bracket is a part of our pop-culture lexicon. TV Madness is CarterMatt’s version of March Madness, where a number of fantastic shows from across the map face off against each other. There are seedings, head-to-head showdowns, and the performance of each show is based entirely on you, the reader.

Within this piece, we’re pleased to say that the final four is officially upon us! It’s been a fun tournament to date and from here on out, we imagine that the battles will only become more intense. That’s what happens when you’ve got a show like Outlander — one with a passionate fanbase who fights for the show like nobody’s business — squaring off against a show like Blindspotone that is making its debut in the final four this year following a series of impressive wins. The final round of TV Madness is right around the corner, and only one of these shows will make it there!

If you’ve taken part in CarterMatt’s TV Madness before, you likely know how this works — we spotlight the two competitors and then, on the other side of it, give you a poll for you to commence your voting! The poll is located at the bottom of this article.

How voting works – Vote however often you would like! (Technical instructions for multiple voting can be found right above the poll.) We will keep this poll open until Thursday, March 28 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. That is when the final round of this particular tournament will begin! We’re imagining a fantastic showdown — it’s hard to really imagine anything less with the contenders who are still in the running.

You can see the full bracket (including start dates for each individual round) in the graphic at the top of this article.

The competitors

Outlander (#1 seed) – We’d be lying to you if we said we were shocked by this result. Outlander has been a powerhouse in TV Madness for some time and this continues a lengthy trend of the drama making it all the way to the final four! It’s won the whole tournament before, but this time around the name of the game is redemption. Last year, it fell at this point to The Brave, which went on to win the entire tournament in the biggest upset victory in CarterMatt’s TV Madness history. This time, its biggest threat came in round 2 against Wynonna Earp. That Syfy series put up a good fight, but Outlander was still able to cruise to a victory after distancing itself a few days in.

In round 3, Outlander throttled Suits by a wide margin of votes. Here, it’s going to do its best to do the same against Blindspot … though we would say that these fans are passionate and above all else, hungry to try to give their show more attention due to the delicate nature of its renewal status.

Blindspot (#5 seed) – Let’s get into a discussion on the future of Blindspot for a moment. The NBC series is currently in the midst of a battle to get that elusive fifth season and its fans are passionate and fully engaged to make it happen. This may be, in part, a reason for its increased success in TV Madness this year — while there’s no direct correlation between a strong performance here and a renewal, it’s added press for a show that’s doing some great stuff and that always helps. Unfortunately, it’s largely been saddled these past couple of years with a terrible timeslot and a surprisingly large amount of other scripted competition.

So can Blindspot find a way to make it to that final round? Absolutely it’s possible, but it is not going to be easy. Outlander is as formidable an opponent as they come — it’s fans adore its performances and its epic story, and the proof is in the pudding when it comes to how well it’s done across a number of past tournaments.

I can’t see the poll; what do I do? – If you are on mobile, scroll to the bottom of the page and click to view the non-AMP version. If that does not work, give the poll a moment to load! On some mobile browsers, it may take a moment.

How can I vote more than once? – If you are having trouble casting multiple votes, try switching your browser, your device, or visiting the page under private browsing or incognito mode. There should be many handy guides online explaining how to do so if interested.
