God Friended Me episode 18 preview: John Dove is back … but why?

In order to get to the end, sometimes you do need to venture all the way back to the beginning. Not to get all super-philosophical here, but this is the statement that is at the heart of God Friended Me episode 18. Next week’s “Return to Sender” is a chronicle of what happens when the early days of the God Account become important to try to unlock the central mystery.

Remember John Dove? He was the very first person sent by the God Account in the pilot, and over the past few months, the easy read on him was that he was almost sent to Miles at random. However, that may not actually be the case. You are going to discover within this upcoming episode that there is a larger purpose to this character — he may not have been random at all! Maybe this bit of information doesn’t change everything, but it is going to bring the group closer to revealing that Simon Hayes is behind the account … which he probably isn’t. Our feeling is that he probably knows someone who is, but it seems FAR too obvious of a reveal for a show that is going to have a season 2 down the line.

Speaking of that season 2 renewal… – Take a look at our video below for some more thoughts on that! On the other side of watching this, remember to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube so you don’t miss out on any upcoming videos about the show.

Below, CarterMatt does have the official God Friended Me episode 18 synopsis for you, which carries with it some specifics about what’s coming up:

“Return to Sender” – When a package mistakenly shows up on Miles’ doorstep, his search for its importance leads him to a couple grieving the loss of their daughter. Also, Miles, Cara and Rakesh reunite with John Dove (Christopher Redman), Miles’ first friend suggestion, after Rakesh discovers a connection between Dove and Simon Hayes (Adam Goldberg), on GOD FRIENDED ME, Sunday, March 24 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

After you think about the how’s and the why’s of the God Account, we do think still that there is another question that rises with some prominence — does it really even matter? Why is it all that important who is behind the Account if you’re doing good for other people? As we’re getting close to the end of the first season, now really feels like the best time to start thinking about how some storylines could end. We think that it would be fascinating for Miles, Cara, and Rakesh to hit somewhat of a brick wall at the end of this season and really take a good look at this question. Why should they care about who is behind the God Account? If they knew would they actually stop helping people? Maybe if it’s run by some monster, they would want to know; yet, does it really seem like it’s run by some monster since monsters typically don’t want to help people.

Maybe this episode can be a foundational standpoint for these characters to better realize that really, this is about the people they help along the way. (Yes, that did sound like the end of a greeting card and we refuse to shove ourselves out the door for it!)
