Chicago PD season 6 episode 17 may not air on NBC until Wednesday, March 27, but you don’t have to wait that long to learn that this is going to be dramatic and world-changing.
Being the Mayor of Chicago is one of the most-important jobs in all America. You are powerful, but also beyond stressed out trying to solve the problems of a city rooted in them. You have to deal with possible corruption, high levels of crime, budgeting, and a laundry list of other issues that would take to long to map out. What matters is that with one snap of your fingers, you can influence a whole lot of people. Think in terms of a political Thanos for millions of people.
When you consider the stakes, you’ll easily understand why this has been a critical component in Chicago PD so far this season. There are candidates so desperate to be the Mayor that they will do just about anything to make it happen, whether it be influence cops or attack their opponents with a series of low blows. These people are desperate to get an edge and are also desperate to cut anyone down that gets in the way. Some are nervous as to what a candidate could bring to the table and because of that, we see them go to great lengths. Dangerous lengths. We’re not trying to tease anything beyond what we’ve said in the title, but in so many ways what we’ve said in the title is more then enough to know how serious this episode is going to be.

If you want a little bit more in the way of context, you can get that now via the official Chicago PD season 6 episode 17 synopsis below:
03/27/2019 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Wednesday) : A mayoral candidate is shot by an unidentified sniper, and CPD races to catch the shooter before he can take out his next target. TV-14 L, V
At the moment, the two most prominent candidates we know of are Kelton (John C. McGinley) and Price (Wendell Pierce). The two are outspoken enough to have plenty of enemies — we’re probably more worried about Price, but that’s mostly because Wendell Pierce somehow is able to have a billion jobs and somehow still also be a lead on Amazon’s Jack Ryan. Sooner rather than later, something’s gotta give when it comes to that man’s schedule. Granted, don’t take someone being shot to mean the candidate dies — they could still make it through alive. As a matter of fact, the craziest theory you could come up with in advance of this episode is that the candidate actually staged their own shooting as a means of ensuring that they would get more publicity and attention for their campaign — a rather grotesque sympathy bump, but crazier things have happened.
One way or another, the truth will come out — with Intelligence hot on the case, it almost always does. It’s just not always pretty…
