The Blacklist season 6 episode 11 promo: Reddington vs. lethal injection

On The Blacklist season 6 episode 11 airing on NBC in one week, everything is going to hit the fan for Raymond Reddington. His attempt to escape from prison failed, and he already knew that his chances in court were shot. Where that leaves him now is a place where we rarely ever see this man — seemingly in defeat and without a whole lot of options at his disposal.

Also, he is knocking on death’s door … or someone else is knocking for him. Thank his time in federal court for that. The promo below gives you a sense of some of the high stakes he is contending with, namely a lethal injection that could end it all. His options are running out, and it doesn’t seem as though some clever gambit with some of the inmates is going to work even remotely now. His greatest hope may be relying on Liz — ironic really, given that she is the main reason that he is there in the first place.

At this point, Reddington is clearly admitting that he needs Liz’s help, and we don’t think that this is just some scheme anymore to get from point A to point C. We don’t know if there’s a clever turn for him now and he may actually rely on her. Maybe in doing this, Liz will think that Reddington is going to give her some of the information that she’s seeking about his true identity. There will never be a time in which he has owed her more! Though, in turn, you can also craft the argument here that if Reddington ever learns the truth about what happened with her betrayal, maybe that levels the playing field … though probably not really. We still think that he would hold a grudge because this is Raymond Reddington we’re talking about here! He doesn’t take to betrayal well and it’s not so much about what someone has done for him lately. (Odds are, you know that expression.) It’s a little bit more about what someone does for him overall. This is an elephant who never forgets, and a prideful one at that.

Given that Reddington is the soul of The Blacklist, it’s almost impossible to imagine that he will come out of this episode deceased. Where does the show go without him? There does still need to be stakes, and we hope that there are genuine ones in here — consequences that matter and consequences that shake up the dynamic of the show. This season has been really good at that so far, so why stop now? Keep firing on all cylinders since you want this to be a worthy conclusion … if it even is the end.
