Is MacGyver new tonight on CBS? A few days ago, we didn’t think that there was any reason to have doubt about this… but some circumstances have changed over the past 36 hours.
As early as Wednesday, it was certain that the Lucas Till series would be back tonight with the episode entitled “Seeds + Permafrost + Feather,” one that involved the disappearance of a man within a highly secure international seed vault. (Our feeling? The man was a ghost and nobody knew it! Okay, maybe this isn’t really what’s happening, but we are no MacGyver over here!) We were prepared to rock ‘n roll with this episode — we even recently posted our new interview with executive producer Peter M. Lenkov setting up everything that was coming up!
Then, CBS threw us a curve-ball with their desire to get some more play out of their Gayle King interview with R. Kelly. We get it — this interview is a big deal and it’s getting oodles of press because of what a circus it turned out to be. It doesn’t make it any less of a bummer that we’re suddenly staring in the face of yet another hiatus for a show that’s already been on a break for a little while. MacGyver is preempted tonight, but there are going to be new episodes of Blue Bloods and Hawaii five-0 still – Mac and the Phoenix Foundation can go ahead and take a nap for another week.
If you haven’t see it yet, check out our most-recent MacGyver video at the bottom of this article with thoughts on Levy Tran’s new character of Desi! Watch it, and then subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more! We have more MacGyver videos coming your way on our playlist.
Now, the schedule works a little something like this…
Tonight – No MacGyver. Go ahead and shake your fist at this.
Next week – New MacGyver. The show will be back in its normal timeslot with “Seeds + Permafrost + Feather.” It’s just being pushed back.
March 22 – No MacGyver. As a matter of fact, we’ll go ahead and tell you that there is no MacGyver either this week or the next! CBS is doing its annual March Madness hiatus, which has been planned for the better part of months. We get it that they gotta keep their financial arrangements with the NCAA (we certainly know the NCAA loves to make their money…), but it stinks royally that there is only one new episode of MacGyver this month. Why are we only getting one? Our main concern is that with the recent cast turnover plus all the long breaks, it may make it harder for the show to sustain in the ratings when it does return.
April 5 – We are back! Here is how MacGyver is going to make it up to you — this episode is going to feature the return of David Dastmalchian as Murdoc, and then also Michael Des Barres as Nicholas Helman. It’s the Battle of the Baddies you’ve been waiting for! Technically, it was originally supposed to air next week before the delay … Murdoc may secretly be a CBS executive and his method of torture is testing our patience.
There are more episodes coming after Murdoc’s return, but it’s much to early for them to be promoting those episodes. Even more patience required.
Are you bummed there is no MacGyver episode tonight?
