Blue Bloods season 9 photo: Lou Diamond Phillips is back!

Blue Bloods season 9

For everyone out there excited (or nervous) to see Delgado back within the Blue Bloods world, here is your confirmation that it’s happening.

In a new post on Twitter (see HERE), Lou Diamond Phillips confirmed that he is back on set, and working with the incredible Donnie Wahlberg while he’s at it! The back and forth between these two is one of the best things about what is, as a whole, a really fantastic storyline. It’s always fun to see a photo like this, especially when you remember that Lou is actually playing one of the worst criminals within the show’s recent history. Delgado is a cartel hitman, possibly responsible for the death of Linda Reagan, and he’s probably done all sorts of other despicable stuff that we don’t even know about. Blue Bloods can really just hope to scratch the surface.

Basically, Delgado is a really bad dude. It’s probably been on Danny Reagan’s mind for a while that he needs to track him down. That’s just easier said than done. (Personally, we like to imagine that over the past several weeks, Danny has been working to try to pinpoint Delgado’s location — sometimes, you don’t get to see everything in a cop’s life in a single episode of Blue Bloods. You just gotta imagine him still at work tracking the bad guy down!)

Based on where Blue Bloods is right now in production, all signs point to seeing Phillips’ return at some point on the other side of the NCAA Tournament hiatus, which kicks off a little bit later this month. There is a new episode airing on Friday and beyond that, we know that there is another episode coming the following week! It’s an exciting time to be a Blue Bloods fan, especially as we build towards the big season finale.

If you love Lou Diamond Phillips…

You should also know that he was recently cast in Prodigal Son, a new Fox pilot from Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver. There is described as a “fresh take on a crime franchise with a provocative and outrageous lead character and darkly comedic tone. It centers on Malcolm Bright, who has a gift. He knows how killers think, how their minds work. Why? His father was one of the worst — a notorious serial killer called “The Surgeon.” That’s why Bright is the best criminal psychologist around; murder is the family business. He will use his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with a manipulative mother, annoyingly normal sister, a homicidal father still looking to bond with his prodigal son, and his own constantly evolving neuroses.”

Who is Phillips going to play? Think Gil (per Deadline), a recent widower and a tough NYPD detective (he’s much more like Danny Reagan here!) who brings in Bright for an investigation. Earlier today, it was also announced that Masters of Sex alum Michael Sheen will be brought on board as the aforementioned “Surgeon” serial killer.
