For those out there wondering about the Hawaii Five-0 season 9 episode count, wonder no more — we have an answer for you within this piece!
Speaking to CarterMatt on Monday morning while promoting the upcoming PaleyFest event (on March 23) featuring Hawaii Five-0 (as well as MacGyver and Magnum PI), executive producer Peter M. Lenkov confirmed to us that there will be 25 episodes this season. Maybe this is what many of you out there were hoping for since it matches the episode order for the past four seasons of the show. We know that Wikipedia currently lists season 9 as having only 22 episodes; that is not accurate.
What 25 episodes represent is an opportunity to see a wide array of different stories featuring this cast, and ones that also capture the essence of Hawaii — the obvious bonus character in this story. Because Hawaii Five-0 does have a fantastic array of different characters, the order also allows them to mix things up and give you different spotlight performances depending on the story. It is a show that takes a classic “the more, the merrier” approach, and does it rather successfully.
Continuing to do so many episodes a season remains an ambitious feat — very few other shows on television manage this, especially on an annual basis. For example, Grey’s Anatomy is doing 25 episodes this year, but it is not an annual occurrence. It’s only made it to this threshold a few times during its run. It takes a hard-working, efficient crew and also skilled writers who can come up with a ton of stories that continue to feel as fresh and exciting as they do with this show. They’ve certainly shown they can do that over the past few years.
What lies ahead next on Hawaii Five-0?
On Friday’s episode, you will see Joan Collins coming on board as Danny’s former mother-in-law, a notable romance author who comes to town and requires a rather specialized security detail! This is a fun story that should also reveal more of Danny’s backstory, and you can read more about that over at the link here. There’s also another plot in which Junior and Tani go undercover at a gym in order to find out who is responsible for putting a deadly steroid out into the world. This episode is the first one in the month of March following last week’s hiatus, and there is another one coming up on March 15 that will feature the return of the fantastic Willie Garson.
