Siren season 2 episode 7 preview: Mermaid panic settles in

Much of Siren season 2 to date has focused in on a simple question, and it’s one of preserving identity. How do you maintain who you are when there are so many people intent on trying to change you? That’s a pressure that some of these mermaids have faced from the moment they first set foot on land. They’re forced to live outside of the habitat and because of what’s happening at sea, it’s hard for anyone to ultimately work their way back.

Obviously, there are characters who want to survive on land — that’s why they are so willing to go through what they are … including living within the tank. The thing to remember in turn is that everyone has a breaking point, and everyone’s going to get to where they think that the current plan is not good enough. We have an agreement-of-sorts between Katrina, Ryn, and many other mermaids right now — they have a common enemy and a single endgame. Yet, how long is that compromise going to last? When are things going to start to crumble? There are only two more episodes left over the first half of the season; following that, we’re going to left waiting for a good while and we’re likely going to be tortured out of our mind by what lies on the other side.

Tensions are rising following a shocking discovery. And living in a tank rather than the ocean is starting to have an adverse effect on many of the mermaids. Hoping to save her kind, and help her human circle, Ryn makes a deal with a complicated ally.

Whoever Ryn makes a deal with throughout this episode could lead to some consequences — potentially, some long-lasting one. If she ends up owing someone a favor, don’t you think that this person could come asking about that favor later? We’ve seen Ryn become so much more of a worthy leader, someone who knows the sea and at least knows how to navigate the land. Yet, when you are a leader there are some surprising issues you have to take on. What should Ryn be prepared for? It’s really no specific thing; instead, it’s almost anything and everything under the sun. Life for mermaids in Bristol Cove is not about to suddenly become easy.
