Manifest season 1 finale reaction: A bigger mystery opens up

Manifest season 1

NBC’s Manifest ended its first season on a high note! All season long mystery after mystery, question after question was introduced and we weren’t disappointed when the finale ended. Each episode this season gave fans a tiny bit of the puzzle while simultaneously giving us more mystery and questions, which to some people can be an irritating aspect of the show, but for us Manifest did this in a way that only made us more intrigued.

The finale picked up right where we left off with Griffin being released from police custody as Michaela, Ben, Saanvi, and Zeke all hear a calling to “stop him”. Meanwhile, Jared is still suspicious of Zeke as officer Tony Diaz follow him. Diaz sees Zeke make an illegal transaction in an alley and immediately notifies Jared. After making the transaction, Zeke follows the calling to where Michaela and Ben confront Griffin before he is about to reveal the callings on a TV talk show. Unknown to anyone, Zeke made the transaction in order to put his plan to discreetly kill Griffin. However, before any of them can make their move, Griffin spews a massive amount of water, essentially drowning on a dry sidewalk.

A few hours later, Olive and Ben calculate that Griffin died eighty-two hours and eight minutes after he returned – the same period of time he was gone. This knowledge sets off a light bulb in Ben’s head and he calculates that the Flight 828 passengers will all die on June 2, 2024 with Cal confirming he had a vision of their deaths. The Stone family’s lives only become more complicated when Grace tells Ben she is pregnant, and hinting to fans that the baby is mostly likely Danny’s.

For Saanvi, Dr. Matthews recommends she start seeing a therapist to deal with her PTSD, but the therapist turns out to be the Major.

Jared confronts Zeke in Michaela’s apartment, believing Zeke bought drugs in an alley and wants to keep Michaela safe. However, when Zeke reveals he bought a gun, Jared and Zeke engage in a fight. As Michaela returns to her apartment, the fight triggers a gunshot fired off camera, leaving someone’s fate hanging in the balance.

CarterMatt Verdict

Overall, our big questions were answered and some weren’t. However, the answers we did get are enough to hold onto. The new reveals were enough to make us want to pause the television to take a break. Grace announcing she is pregnant is a big problem, especially given the chances it’s not Ben’s. This new dynamic is going to be great to watch going into season 2 (it hasn’t been renewed yet but we are hopeful!), because it’s going to test Ben more than he ever imagined. Ben strikes us as someone who would never reject the baby, in fact, he would love the child as his own, and that’s not easy to do. If it is Danny’s than that means he will be a big part of their lives. Olive and Ben just started getting close again, especially with putting the clues together, so who knows what kind of effect that will have on Ben and Olive’s relationship.

In addition, the love triangle between Michaela, Jared, and Zeke is now more of a problem than ever. Michaela has just walked into a fight that ends with someone getting shot and whoever is alive is now going to be seen by Michaela as a killer. That alone is going to be impossible to reconcile with. However, we love this triangle because it makes us question who is truly right for Michaela, and if it’s Zeke then he only has a year left. Zeke isn’t aware of this yet, but if Michaela does get the chance to tell him, don’t be surprised if his and Michaela’s relationship begins to speed up.

All in all Season 1 was a blast and we can’t wait for Season 2. Rewatch Manifest on NBC.com. For more news related to Manifest, be sure to visit this link and subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more show discussions.
