NCIS: Los Angeles season 10 episode 15 review: Is the team sticking together?

NCIS: Los Angeles

Who was behind the attack on the movie theater? That was a big question entering NCIS: Los Angeles season 10 episode 15. “Smokescreen, Part 2” kicked things off in the aftermath of the big attack late month; in the aftermath of that, the team ended up being a little bit more complicated than anyone thought.

For most of the episode, the easy conclusion to draw was that the team was struggling to stop a terrorist attack. with that said, we’ve got a good sense now as to why the title was what it was. This was (ahem) a smokescreen for what the actual plan was — a man by some dangerous people in order to take down some sort of dangerous high-value target.

The NCIS: LA team did a great job tonight of going from point A to point B, and finding a way to stay on the trail despite being exhausted and having to go from one possible bombing site to the next.

One of the central characters outside the main team in the episode tonight was Special Agent Fatima, who proved to be a major asset to the case … though she did have some major reservations as to whether or not she could continue handling the responsibilities of it after the fact. There are a lot of hardships that come with being a part of this group, primarily the long hours and having to deal with life-or-death situations. We also like the fact that the character grew up in Beverly Hills, which led to a rather-fun scene between her and Nell.

Will the team stay together?

This was a key question that was asked at the end of the episode, but Ochoa made it clear that despite their rogue ways of getting the job done, they did still get the job done. They are “tip of the spear,” in his words, but they are missing one person: Henrietta Lange. There are still questions as to where this character is, but Ochoa made it clear that she has trained them well.

Ochoa, in the end, recommended that the team continued to do what they do — without Hetty there or even without him. They don’t need a lot of oversight since they are so exceptional at what it is that they do.

CarterMatt Verdict

The NCIS: Los Angeles team continues to do some of what they do best … though it is pretty darn clear at this point that they miss Hetty. They were at least tonight able to stop further carnage, though there’s also no forgetting the lives that were lost at the same time.
