Law & Order: SVU season 20 episode 16 video: The Cassidy connection

On Thursday night’s Law & Order: SVU season 20 episode 16, you will see the return of Dean Winters as Cassidy. We’ve known that for a little while, but what was not anywhere near as clear was simply how the character was going to be coming back.

As it turns out, this episode could end up being tied to Cassidy’s past — and we wonder if it has something to do with some information that he shared on this show not too long ago. In the promo below, you can see some evidence that this case may be tied in some way to what happened with Cassidy in Little League. He previously admitted that he was molested as a kid playing baseball, so the victim, a suspect, or someone else may be connected to this part of his past.

Ultimately, this is going to be a situation where in order to have the full picture and get to the bottom of what happened, we’re going to see Olivia and Cassidy work together — which we imagine is going to bring a wide array of ups and downs to the table. These two characters do have a complicated relationship, and we definitely don’t think that Cassidy is the most likable guy in the world much of the time. Yet, we know that he and Benson can be effective when they work together. We’re going to have to hope that this is the case here given that otherwise, justice may not be properly served.

Our hope is that really throughout the rest of the season, we get a chance to see a notable guest stars. Given that this upcoming episode is the 450th ones, we know that there were some people hoping to see Christopher Meloni. Given how integral Stabler was to the show’s early success, we definitely do understand the appeal behind getting him back and hope that it happens eventually. Maybe if SVU gets to a 500th episode down the road? This obviously wouldn’t be for a couple more years, but given how much the series still seems to be finding success for itself, we definitely think that it’s possible.

In the end, though, we don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. Let’s see exactly how the story unfolds for this particular episode, and then focus on the rest of the season after that.
