Supergirl season 4 episode 12 sneak peek: A heartless victim

Supergirl season 3 episode 13After a short hiatus due to awards shows, Supergirl season 4 episode 12 is finally returning this weekend! At the heart of the upcoming “Menagerie” will be Valentine’s Day — and, ironically, a victim who has no heart at all. This is the focus of the sneak peek below, as Alex Danvers and Colonel Haley make a pretty shocking discovery out in the field.

There are a couple of things that are strange about the sneak peek below, with the first one being simply the weirdness of the victim. Who would want to do this, and is it tied in any way to the villain at the heart of this story? We’re going to get an introduction within this episode to Menagerie (Jessica Meraz), a woman who, with the help of a symbiotic parasitic alien, is able to cause all sorts of destruction.

Beyond that, there’s also the simple fact that this preview attempts to actually humanize Colonel Haley a little bit. There is no real discussion of her quest to learn Supergirl’s alter ego here; instead, we learn that she has a daughter and actually does have some sort of life outside of the DEO. Is the series going to set up some sort of deeper friendship between Haley and Alex? That would create some fascinating conflict, mostly because Supergirl has to view her as an enemy at the moment. Yet, Kara isn’t able to tell her sister the truth about who she is right now because of Haley’s hunt for information. She could be watching Alex get closer to someone who is very much out to get her, and there’s not all that much she can really do about it. Ultimately, that’s a pretty precarious position for Kara to be in, especially since she doesn’t have all that much of a choice other than just sit back and hope that there’s a change at the DEO before long … at least when it comes to their philosophy.

Let’s hope more than anything for just an epic return for the show, and for there to be a few great episodes coming up overall. We’re building towards the arrival of Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor, so here’s to hoping that it is worth the wait.
