In a new Facebook Live today with Entertainment Weekly (see below), executive producers Maril Davis and Toni Graphia confirmed that there are a handful of extra scenes (four in total) in the DVD/Blu-Ray set featuring such people as Lord John and Willie, Marsali and Murtagh, Phaedre, Young Ian, and Lizzie. There will still be deleted scenes in the season 4 set, but the goal of Outlander Untold is a little bit different — it’s basically a chance to explore things that were never supposed to be in the show. Take, for example, how Young Ian wins Rollo. For those who have questions on a number of supporting characters, Outlander Untold is for you. (Davis and Graphia confirmed that these scenes will not feature the leads.)
Personally, we really love the idea. It’s a great way to give you more insight into the show and these are meant to be quality scenes — like we said, these weren’t cut for time. They may not push the plot forward in a significant way, but they are chances to get more viewers interested in the DVD/Blu-Ray set. It’s so smart for the studio in Sony to do this, given that it’s sometimes hard to get people interested in purchasing DVD/Blu-Ray sets of things when they can just watch episodes on Starz.
As for season 5 talk…
There’s not too much that either Davis or Graphia could say, though they mentioned that “it’s no surprise that we will do The Gathering.” They discussed that they are currently in the process of casting the new season and that they’re excited to see what they decide to do with certain roles.
The two also discussed the idea of a potential Lord John Grey limited series featuring David Berry. They didn’t exactly say no to the idea, saying that it has at the very least been discussed. (Don’t get too excited just yet, though, given that there are probably a lot of things that are discussed. We at least know that there is some quality source material out there that they could tap into if given the chance.)
