‘Supernatural’ season 8 spoilers: Let’s get cartoonish!

We are finally just one day away from the season 8 premiere of “Supernatural” on The CW; but before we dive completely and totally head-first into that, let’s talk about some fun that is going to be coming up a little later this season. Specifically, we are going to see Sam and Dean venture into the world of cartoons … or at least their interpretation of what the world of cartoons would look like.

In chatting about this very idea in a new interview with E! News, here is what showrunner Jeremy Carver had to say:

“What happens when you find yourself living in a cartoon universe? That’s a lot of fun … It deals with cartoon physiques in the real world.”

One thing that we should point out here is that the show is not just pulling a “Community” and turning the Winchester brothers into claymation or an 8-bit video game (though that would be awesome). Instead, this episode is going to continue to be visually similar to some of what we have seen from past episodes. The primary difference is going to come via how the characters act and interact with each other, which we are assuming will happen via some heightened emotions that occasionally go over the top.

The premiere Monday is going to deal with a separate universe all of its own, but it will be purgatory. After all, much of this season is going to happen via flashback as we see how Dean (with the help of Castiel and others) manages to escape the prison that he found himself in at the end of last season. We’re excited to see what Carver comes up with, and this already feels like the most exciting season of the show yet.

What do you think about this idea for the episode?
