The Walking Dead season 9 teaser: Chaos on all fronts

In the video below, you can get a small sense of the incoming threat of the Whisperers, coupled with some of the fear and paranoia that they are going to bring to the table this season. This is a super-dangerous group of people who we know have a very-specific manner of doing things — this will be extremely unsettling to the remaining survivors in Alexandria and beyond, much as it should be.
While we know that the Whisperers in their physical form are certainly dangerous, it’s the idea of them that could be just as tricky for these characters to navigate. They are a very different sort of adversary than we’ve ever seen before in that they will cause a change in thinking. Anytime that these characters have seen a walker before, it’s been easy to just label them as one thing and then act accordingly as a result of that. This is a little bit different in that these characters will be making some sort of different adjustment and assumption about walkers. They have to. They have to really take that extra moment and think, but there could be differing ideas as to what to do with them and beyond that, questions as to why they are doing this in the first place.
Of course, there is then also the time jump that has to be considered here, given that we are looking at a totally different era with this show than we have experienced so far. We’re starting to get a sense of these new versions of Carol, Daryl, Michonne, Judith, and others, but it is still early and there are questions all over the place about precisely who they are now and what they’ve been through. We’ll probably get a sense of that throughout the upcoming episodes, but to what sense certainly remains to be seen.
The Walking Dead returns to the air on Sunday, February 10 — it’s really just a little over two weeks away!
