Outlander season 4 episode 13 (finale) expectations: What to hope for

Within this article, we’re laying the groundwork for what’s coming with some of our expectations. Think of this as the last episode preview we’re going to have for a while — and the thought of that is certainly emotional in its own way. (What’re we going to do when we don’t have episodes to preview anymore?)
Jamie and Claire – We expect the two to do everything that they can to get back Young Ian, even if it does mean putting their own lives on the line along the way, There is an awareness here on Jamie’s part that Roger is there exclusively because of his actions sending him away — even if it was a misunderstanding. They’re going to prioritize saving Roger and, beyond that, finding a way to bring him back to River Run to be with Brianna.
Young Ian – He’s in a slightly-different spot than Jamie and Claire, even though he is with them. He may feel a different sort of responsibility because he is the one who sold Roger to the Mohawk in the first place. What will he be willing to do in order to get him back? This could be the episode where Young Ian takes the biggest risk that he has over the run of the season.
Roger – You, of course, have to hope that he survives, but there is another question to wonder here at the same time — even if Jamie and Claire are able to bring him back to North Carolina, is he going to be the same person? He’ll have fundamentally changed, but he may also understand the value of his life in a new way and may not have any interest in ever leaving Brianna again … or so we hope.
Brianna – While it’s going to be interesting to see if the finale has time to have her give birth in it, we certainly know that this is coming. Here’s to a peaceful birth, and that there aren’t any more problems that await her at River Run. We do recognize that Stephen Bonnet may still be alive, but there’s no guarantee he will torment her in the immediate future.
Other characters – It’d be nice to get an update on Murtagh after what he went through at the end of this past episode; meanwhile, where is Lord John Grey? Given that he and Brianna are set to be married, could he be around for the birth?
