However, in this case neither of these things are happening. Instead, you’re going to have to wait until Tuesday, February 5 in order to see the conclusion of the two-part “Songbird Road” saga, mostly because next week is currently slated to be the State of the Union Address. Maybe there’s a chance this could change, but even if it does we’re not sure that NBC would alter their schedule all that much. February 5 is the first Tuesday in the key ratings “sweeps” period for the month, and this is the perfect episode to launch that given that this is the episode where we feel like so much could change.
For a split second at the end of tonight’s episode, our feeling was that Nicky Pearson was dead and he either killed himself or had a heart attack after Kevin, Randall, and Kate left his home in Bradford. That didn’t happen, but it’s clear that Nicky thought about. It’s also clear that at least on some level, Kevin doesn’t want to leave him there alone like his father had in the past. The question is what decision could he make in order to help him? He can bring him to a treatment center for some help, which may be the best thing to do given that none of the Big Three are qualified to help him in that way. It’s important to remember that for most of his life, Nicky thought Jack was still alive and there was a chance that he could tell him the truth about the accident that killed that boy. That chance was taken from him by the Big Three confirming his death. He’s going to need to work through that, and then following this, he may need help figuring out what’s next.
Do we think that Nicky having a consistent family presence in his life could help him? Maybe, but it depends on how he processes it and how much Nicky is holding onto. He’s been isolated for decades and it may just be a reminder of what he’s lost. We’re rooting for it, even if we know it’s messy and convoluted since there may be so much more about his life the past few decades that we don’t know about. We’re assuming that he didn’t just spend every second of his day in that tiny trailer, not communicating with anyone. There is a lot we have to learn about him and that could cause some more revelations to unravel.
Keeping Nicky around is a start, but there is so much more that could come on the other side of this.
