The Orville season 2 episode 4 video: Ed finds himself stranded

On The Orville season 2 episode 4, which is airing on Fox Tuesday night, Ed Mercer is going to find himself in a tight spot. He’s going to find himself stranded, away from much of his team, and he’s not going to be able to rely on anyone to ensure his safety.

So really, this episode will be an epic survival mission like no other — while also finding a way to throw in a little bit of humor here and there. This is still The Orville, and it isn’t going to move too far away from that identity.

The promo below for this episode gives you a little bit of a sense as to what’s coming, as Ed makes the realization that if he’s going to survive some harsh conditions and some fierce opposition, he is going to have to do so himself. We are going to see in tandem Kelly and Gordon do what they can in order to help, but that’s going to be easier said than done. (Also, the episode’s synopsis teases that Gordon could be thinking about commanding his own ship at some point down the line.)

The real challenge for this episode

We think that’s rather simple: Helping viewers move past their emotions over Alara. This past episode of the show was a painful one for viewers who came to love that character. We do think that there’s a chance we see her at some point down the line, but for the immediate future, we don’t think we’ll be seeing her right away. If we did, that would lessen the impact of the epic ending to this past episode.

It’s just hard anytime that a show like this loses a major character, especially since there’s a difficult line you have to walk. You want to make sure that this character is honored, but at the same exact time you also have to push the story forward as well. It’s almost like you don’t want to forget, but you also cannot obsess too much over the past. Hopefully, this episode on Thursday is the sort of eventful, action-packed installment that keeps you almost entirely in the present.
