For February sweeps this year, NCIS is clearly interested in bringing some attention to its past. How else do you describe what they’re planning for their upcoming 13th episode of the season? The title here is “She,” and it may be bringing up Cote de Pablo’s character of Ziva David in a way that the show really hasn’t since Tony’s departure from the team.

So how does Ziva’s name come up as a part of the investigation? Below, CarterMatt has the official NCIS season 16 episode 13 synopsis for you:
“She” – After a malnourished and confused 9-year-old is found hiding in a storage unit, NCIS reopens an old missing persons case when the girl is believed to be the daughter of a Navy recruit who disappeared 10 years ago. Also, Bishop discovers notes that Special Agent Ziva David kept on the case long after NCIS officially stopped investigating, on NCIS, Tuesday, Feb. 5 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
It is fascinating that the show decided to bring Ziva back to the forefront now of all times, given that there doesn’t seem to be any specific reason for doing so — with that said, it does make a good bit of sense that there would be some cases that had some loose ends that were left behind years ago. Not only that, but it also makes sense that certain agents would hold onto case files and notes even after the investigation was over. CBS also notes that this case is one that Ziva had a personal interest in, so that may have been another reason why she chose to keep some of that information for a little while longer than other cases.
Of course, we’d love for this to mean that Ziva somehow shows up magically alive — but there’s no hint out there that this is happening. We’ve personally long felt that the character was still out there, and with the right story, anything is possible in terms of a possible Cote de Pablo return. You would just need to find a way where it made sense for her to fake her own death, and eventually, we would also want to find a way for her to navigate back to where Tony and their daughter Tali are located.
If nothing else, “She” should prove to be a fascinating episode for those of you who are NCIS historians and looking to get some echoes of the past.
