It’s not often that we get a chance to hear about Gibbs’ past on NCIS these days, but Tuesday’s new episode will offer that up! Not only that, but they are going to be bringing us all the way back to Gibbs’ childhood.

In the preview video that we have for you below for Tuesday night’s “The Last Link,” you get a better sense via guest John Sydney as to some of what Gibbs went through as a kid, including a story in which he tried to sneak a dog into his family home when he was just nine years old. While he was eventually punished for the act, he did actually end up getting to keep the dog — and named it Apollo.

It’s clear that Sydney has a long history with Gibbs and his family — he calls him Leroy, and he has known him for most of his life. Yet, this sneak peek shows that he and Sydney don’t necessarily have the best relationship. The two haven’t spoken in a really long time, and Gibbs refuses the hug and goes in for a handshake instead. He also calls him “Mr. Sydney” — while we know Gibbs believes in respect and good manners, we think the two men are of a certain age where they don’t have to speak to each other in such proper terms any more. It also doesn’t seem like he’s saying it out of respect, more so out of the distance between them.

Regardless of whatever sort of difficult history the two parties may have, there are going to be a lot of interesting things that they end up taking on in this episode. We’re going to explore the idea of these two characters on the road together, where they will look to recover a missing military ID bracelet. Whatever they are searching for is something that’s clearly personal to the two of them, and it’s something that could cause them to find a way to work together despite so many years of discord and potentially hard feelings. It’s probably going to take a lot to get them on the same page, but them doing so is likely essential to this case being properly resolved.

For all Mark Harmon fans, we certainly feel like this episode is going to be a must-watch.
