NCIS season 16 episode 12 video: Gibbs’ hometown; meet John Sydney

As we approach NCIS season 16 episode 12 airing on CBS in just a matter of six days, it’s clear this is no ordinary episode. Instead, “The Last Link” is one that will give us a whole new sort of insight into the life of Agent Gibbs. We’re going meet someone from his past, and beyond that venture back to their hometown for a deeply personal mission.

So who is John Syndey? He has a military connection to Gibbs but beyond that, he has a personal connection to his family. He is the sort of man who is so important to him that he can turn up and demand that Gibbs drop a case he is working on in order to go on a road trip with him … and Gibbs will actually accept. That’s not something that you have a tendency to see all that often on this show. What unfolds from here could be dramatic, painful, and then hopefully in some ways therapeutic. We do think that it would significantly benefit Gibbs and Sydney both to work through some of what ever issues they have, given that there does appear to be some sort of contentious past here for the two characters that needs some resolving.

So what about the rest of the cast? Well, rest assured that it will be there. The goal for NCIS over the course of this episode is to alternate between a number of different things that are going on, both in the office but then also in the field. We’re hoping along the way that there’s at least a chance to address Bishop and Torres more following what we just saw on this past episode. Doesn’t Bishop realize at this point that Nick has some feelings for her? Even if he hasn’t 100% spelled it out, we don’t exactly think that this is some sort of jaw-dropping shocker based on his behavior patterns. Plus, she works in a job where solving mysteries is often a daily activity.

No matter what’s going on with the two characters or with Gibbs, NCIS is always going to be about solving cases and making sure justice is served. That’s likely going to be the case here.
