In a new post on Twitter, the NBC series confirmed today that Glass star James McAvoy is hosting the show, surprisingly for the first time, on January 26. Meanwhile, he will be joined by musical guest Meek Mill. McAvoy has done enough notable franchises that we would’ve assumed he would have gotten the call beforehand. It’s an interesting choice, one that is probably banking on Glass becoming some sort of tremendous hit.

McAvoy is coming on one week after the show featuring Rachel Brosnahan and Greta Van Fleet as musical guest, and we imagine that there will be at least some shows following it within the month of February. We do like it when SNL does something a little bit Super Bowl themed, but the unfortunate thing is that they aren’t broadcasting the big game this year. We don’t often get a sense that there is the same eagerness to talk about football when the Super Bowl is airing on a rival network. Still, we know that there’s no shortage of sketch material that could be out there from that and some of the other events that are coming up in the month of February, including the Oscars and also the Grammys. NBC will likely make some further host announcements over the next few weeks and we will have that for you here at the site.

What do we hope to see in this episode?

For starters, it’d be fun if SNL chooses to riff on the fact that McAvoy is playing a number of different characters within Glass. Also, we really hope that Sarah Paulson makes some sort of appearance — there’s been a large contingent of people hoping to see her host for quite some time (us included!). We know that she has a good comedic sensibility and has also shown she can do a wide array of things. Just look at all of the different parts that she’s played over the past several years of American Horror Story for a good example of that.
