Magnum PI episode 11 promo teases a nuclear situation

Following a lengthy hiatus thanks to the holidays and college football, Magnum PI episode 11 will officially come your way on CBS Monday night — and with it, bring one of the most-dangerous stories we’ve seen to date for the title character.

So what’s coming Thomas Magnum’s way? Think in terms of a nuclear crisis. With a bomb potentially set to go off we are going to see Magnum, Higgins, and others try to deal with a race against time in this episode to ensure that nothing happens. Think of this as a way to really kick-start the second half of the season in just about as action-packed a way possible. This show is about high stakes, tough cases, and a little bit of humor in there as well. It’s also pretty clear with the shirtless Magnum part of the promo below that CBS has a very particular marketing plan in mind!

This second part of the season is going to be an essential one for CBS to really figure out if they have a potential hit on their hands and a show that could stick around for many more seasons still. The test with Monday’s episode is going to be if viewers flock back to the show after such a lengthy hiatus. Meanwhile, the next test will come following the AFC Championship Game when a special episode airs. The expectation is that this should be one of the highest-rated episodes of the season yet. Then, you have to hope that this is going to end up leading to some more viewership with other episodes down the line. Nobody over at CBS is probably expecting the ratings for the series to spike 20% or anything in the weeks that follow the post-football episode, but even if the show just gains fifty thousand consistent viewers after that, it will be considered a nice win for them.

Beyond episodes 11 and 12, the goal for the rest of the season is likely this — trying to establish all of the major characters and give us a good sense as to how they fit into this idyllic Hawaiian setting. Sure, we know that guys like Rick and TC are friends of Magnum, but how much more is there? How much more of Higgins’ history are we going to get to learn? Will we get more Hawaii Five-0 crossovers? There are still so many different questions that are worth wondering as we progress further into the next phase of the show.
