Will Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club be a ratings success on MTV?

Tonight, MTV decided to take their unscripted programming slate to another level, or at least attempt to, with Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club. This show is basically their answer to Vanderpump Rules using a different sitting in Mykonos and also a number of young, energetic people who want to find a balance between working hard and playing harder.

If nothing else, it’s a great source of TV escapism to imagine that you are somewhere far away from where you’re actually located in life.

Was the first episode a success? Maybe in terms of establishing the setting, but we do think that this show faces more challenges than Vanderpump Rules given that its title star doesn’t have the same reality TV cloud that Lisa Vanderpump does. Sure, Lindsay Lohan has far more name value than the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, but it feels like more people knew what to expect from her entering Vanderpump Rules than anyone does about Lohan here. There’s also a redemption-story element of this for Lohan given that she’s someone who is mostly known through a reputation she is trying to turn around on this show.

We’re very curious to see how this show fares but contrary to what many may think, we don’t think it’s going to be the premiere that really sells this one way or another. Instead, we think it’ll be more what happens a few weeks down the line. Most MTV success stories are the ones that start smaller and grow over time — look at Jersey Shore for one example of this, or really to a certain extent Floribama Shore and Teen Mom. They get more notoriety when you start to understand the world and the characters who are in it.

With Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club, the most important thing here is that the show continues to generate attention beyond tonight. We didn’t actually feel like the show captured social media’s attention as much as we expected that it would, but it’s one night in what could be an eventful season for some time moving forward. There’s still plenty of time for the show to get a little bit more in the way of attention.
