NCIS season 16 episode 12 preview: Dabney Coleman guest stars in ‘The Last Link’

NCIS

What lies ahead on NCIS season 16 episode 12? Well, be prepared for a story in “The Last Link” that should actually offer up a chance for some adventure. Beyond just that, it’s also going to feature a notable guest star in Dabney Coleman. He’s been in more movies and shows from the past several decades than we can even count; now, he’s going to be joining forces with Gibbs.

What we find fascinating about Coleman’s guest gig on the show is that he may be one of those actors who Mark Harmon himself looks up to from his early days as an actor. Save for David McCallum (who is already a part of the show), there are not a lot of other actors on the series who were around when Harmon started his run. This is a chance for a fascinating, possibly-introspective story for Gibbs as John Sydney helps him reflect on his past.

Of course, this is going to be paired with a little more of a traditional NCIS case, one that revolves around a Navy Lieutenant being poisoned. We expect that to more fit the bill for what you’ve come to expect from this series.

Below, CarterMatt offers up the official NCIS season 16 episode 12 synopsis with some more information as to what’s coming up:

“The Last Link” – An old family friend, Army Corporal John Sydney (Dabney Coleman), beseeches Gibbs to join him on a road trip to search for a missing military I.D. bracelet. Also, a Navy Lieutenant in NCIS protective custody is poisoned by an infamous drug dealer, on NCIS Tuesday, Jan. 15 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

We’d be very interested in seeing whether or not Sydney could appear again beyond this episode, mostly because of the fact that NCIS does like to bring guest stars back here and there. A lot of that could just depend on the overall impact that we see this character make over this episode and the rapport that Coleman and Harmon have together. What we do know is this — if you love old-school Hollywood stars, there’s a good chance that you will like this episode. Luckily, tonight’s NCIS is not being delayed by the Presidential Address so you are going to have an opportunity to check this one out in precisely one week’s time.
