Following tonight’s new episode, is it possible that we could see Griggs return to MacGyver season 3 at some point down the road? It’s certainly an interesting thing to ponder over.

Let’s start this article off with this — technically, Griggs was still alive at the end of this past episode. Jack shot him, but he was still breathing and with that, Mac and Jack drug his body out of that compound alive. The assumption to make here is that this is a villain who will find himself locked away, potentially to the point where we will never see or hear from him again.
Yet, is there a reason to bring him back? Story-wise, we certainly do think that is the case given that with a show like this, the top priority here should be to constantly find some ways to bring some interesting adversaries to the table. With Griggs, you have someone who does have a deep history to MacGyver and Jack; with that in mind, he is someone who is always going to have a reason to torment them and give them trouble down the line.
Unfortunately, there are two obvious reasons why this may not end up happening.
1. You have to bust Griggs out of prison – Is there really a way in which to do this that makes sense? Given that his closest friend is already dead and he’s spent many of his past several years being tormented, we have a rather hard time imagining that he is going to have a ton of people at his disposal who are ready and willing to assist in some devious plot.
2. Jack isn’t going to be a part of the show too much longer – If George Eads ends up leaving MacGyver for good at the end of this season, doesn’t that mean you’re losing one of the big reasons to bring Griggs back? We definitely do think that he will still have a reason to go after MacGyver, but at the same time you’re losing one of the more-compelling reasons to have the guy around.
In the end, anything can happen and it’s really up to the writers to determine if they want more Griggs. Rest assured that this is definitely something that we’re going to be watching out for more in the future.
