Is Madam Secretary, 60 Minutes delayed thanks to NFL football?

Madam Secretary

Are you preparing to watch Madam Secretary and 60 Minutes on CBS Sunday night? If so, you better prepare for some delays.

Going into tonight’s primetime lineup, the network had already planned for these shows to air thirty minutes later than their typically-scheduled times. 60 Minutes, for example, was planned to kick off starting at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time, with the 100th episode of Madam Secretary coming up just one hour later at 8:30. God Friended Me and NCIS: Los Angeles done for the year, this allows for the Tea Leoni series to have a little bit of a stronger timeslot than it is accustomed to.

However, it now seems like the delay is going to be a little bit longer than that. The NFL game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints is running long, and with that many viewers on the East Coast should expect to be waiting a little while longer. Rest assured, we’ll have some more updates on the subject the moment that they start to come out.

While the delays are in many ways infuriating, there is a small silver lining here if you are a fan of either one of these shows — this will offer them up a chance to get some stronger ratings than what they likely would have received otherwise. The NFL is one of the strongest lead-ins out there within the television world, and because of that CBS shows have long benefited from it being around. By far, this is the best chance Madam Secretary has had to deliver great numbers for the better part of this year. (Remember, for most of the season the show’s been stuck past 10:00 p.m. Eastern time.)

Update: According to the company’s official Twitter, Madam Secretary will be starting at 8:57 p.m. Eastern time. Meanwhile, 60 Minutes is already on the air. Repeats of both God Friended Me and then also NCIS: Los Angeles are going to be airing a little later on in the night.
