For some reason, Netflix refuses to abide by traditional network terms when it comes to Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Originally, the batch of episodes airing this coming spring was labeled season 2; now, that label has shifted over to “Part 2.” Meanwhile, today Netflix has announced that they have ordered “Part 3” and “Part 4” for the Kiernan Shipka series … which is what we’re going to call them now for the sake of keeping things from getting too confusing.
Basically, what you need to know is this — beyond the episodes that airing on Netflix this spring, there are another 16 installments coming. We imagine that those could come as early as late 2019, depending on how the streaming service chooses to divide them up.
In a new statement, here is what series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had to say:
“Praise Satan! I’m so grateful to my partners at Warner Brothers, Netflix, Berlanti Television and Archie Productions for supporting this darker vision of the world’s most famous teen witch … And I’m thrilled to be continuing to tell Sabrina’s chilling adventures with our incredible cast and crew, led by the unstoppable Kiernan Shipka.”
Based on the initial reaction to Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, we cannot say that it’s altogether a shock that there are some more episodes coming in the future. The first batch of stories was extremely well-received and we’re also coming off of a holiday special that was released separate from more or less everything. The real comedy here to us is the fact that this show was originally considered a possibility for The CW, who could’ve had it set entirely in the same world as Riverdale. (Technically, it still is, but it’s harder to do a ton of spin-offs given that it’s crossing networks.) Does The CW regret on some level letting this show go given how instant a success it’s been for Netflix? We certainly do wonder.
Of course, we’ll have some more news when it comes to Part 3 and Part 4 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina in the future — for now, though, we recommend that you head over to the link here to get some more insight on Part 2. We definitely do not think that Part 4 will necessarily be the end of this series; given the nature of this show and the thirst that is out there for supernatural programming, this could last for a while. We just think that Sabrina will be looked at as a teenage witch forever depending on how long the show lasts.
