Could a Lizzie McGuire revival happen? Early conversations have happened…
After seeing such classic sitcoms like Boy Meets World and That’s So Raven in the past, is it possible that we could see a revival for Lizzie McGuire in the future? It certainly seems possible…
Speaking via Entertainment Tonight in a new interview, original series star Hillary Duff confirmed that “there’s been some conversations” about potentially giving the show, which spawned a movie and plenty of product lines all over the world, a new version. However, she also made it clear that “it’s definitely not a go. I don’t want to get everyone wild talking about it.”
Regardless of whether or not something more happens with this character, Duff certainly remains a big fan of her after so many years:
“I mean I love her so much … I think she was so important to girls at an important time in their life. If she could be important to them again at this age, I think that would be amazing.”
We do understand the appeal of doing a revival with an older version of Lizzie, but at the same time, it’s something that is admittedly rather-hard to pull off. For starters, there needs to be an interesting take on it. Beyond that, there is no guarantee at all that the new version would appeal to viewers who are the age that many people were when the original came on. Also, the majority of reboots are not anywhere near as successful as the original. Girl Meets World did make it three seasons on the air, but it couldn’t find a way to survive longer than that despite having loyal fans. Meanwhile, Raven’s World has been renewed for a third season and we’ll see more of what happens after the fact.
The reason why it’s probably wrong to read too much into conversations about a Lizzie McGuire revival is pretty simple: There are, more than likely, probably dozens of conversations that happen when it comes to saving shows every single year. The reality is that we maybe hear about 15-20% of them in the press. There are so few that actually see the light of day and nobody wants to get anyone too excited about a project that may never end up coming together.
Nonetheless, we’re certainly going to keep our eyes peeled for news on this down the line — though it certainly does not seem as though there’s going to be anything forthcoming at some point in the reasonably-near future.
