MacGyver season 3 episode 10 preview: The story of Matty & Ethan

If you think back to earlier this season, one of the biggest stories that Meredith Eaton’s character had revolved around Ethan, her secret husband who has been away for many years. The Dragonfly file was a small window into that world; now, we’re about to see that window get smashed as we prepare for a dangerous crisis that Ethan is at the center of. By the end of this episode, it is very well possible that his life could be on the line unless Mac and the remainder of the team figures out a way in which to help him.

“Matty + Ethan + Fidelity” – Matty reveals a shocking secret to the team: she has a husband who’s been undercover in a criminal organization called D-Company for eight years. When his status as a CIA agent comes out, Matty needs MacGyver to find and extract her husband before it’s too late, on MACGYVER, Friday, Dec. 7 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
We’ve long stated at CarterMatt that Matty is one of the series’ strongest characters, and to go along with that she is in many ways the keeper of secrets at the Phoenix Foundation. She holds on to a great deal of information that is on a need-to-know basis, and it seems like it takes a lot in order to convince her to disclose it. Because of what happened with Ethan, we do think that it is very well possible that she’s been able to compartmentalize a lot of this for an extremely long period of time … which brings her precisely to the point that she is now at in her career. This could prove emotional and, by the end of it, we could see a totally new side to Matty than any that we’ve had a chance to check out before.
For those who love Eaton, consider this episode a must-watch. Also, be sure to check it out live! While we do feel fairly confident about a season 4 renewal at this point, it’s always better to get that extra vote of reassurance via some of the ratings.
