X Factor UK results: Was Acacia & Aaliyah, Scarlett Lee eliminated?

X Factor

As we approached the results portion of The X Factor UK tonight, it was fairly clear that we were going to be losing one of two people: Acacia & Aaliyah or Anthony Russell. In particular, it felt like the girl duo’s time in the series was done.

How could the two girls really move forward? This is a question that we definitely found ourselves wondering mostly on the strength of what we saw tonight coupled with voting results in the past. While Anthony hasn’t been consistently fantastic most of the season, he does have a good performance of “Don’t Look Back in Anger” going for him. Beyond just that, he’s also got a loyal following from a part of Britain that tends to come out hard for some of their talent. Basically, there was a reason to have a lot of confidence in him.

Granted, the series still did make us wait for a little while to get some of the actual results tonight. (We just assumed that Dalton Harris and Scarlett Lee would be safe because they’ve been stronger than the field for a good while now.)

The two advancing acts

Dalton was the first name called! While we weren’t all that nervous, there is that small pit in your stomach that comes when the results are about to be read out. This is where things get a little bit crazy, as Anthony was the second act put through. That means that it was going to be down to Scarlett Lee and Acacia & Aaliyah to compete in the sing-off.

Basically, it was clear that Acacia & Aaliyah’s goose was officially cooked. The sing-off was a little bit frustrating given that the two acts basically just repeated what they did last night — which basically made it pointless. (We understand that there were so many songs that they had to prepare for this week, but it was still a little bit irritating.)

In the end, though, the judges made the right choice and Scarlett ended up making it to the finale. Acacia & Aaliyah are finally gone, and we do think that they have a chance at being successful after the show with the right people and material that is around them. They just weren’t going to win this series and that’s been clear for a rather long time. They just didn’t have the vocal chops and talent-wise, they aren’t quite there yet. Maybe they will be within a couple of years if they continue to work hard.
