As we move further into this episode, one of the biggest takeaways that we’ve got at the moment is simply this: Sam Winslow is in some trouble. Namely, we think that her Mayoral candidate Anita is in some trouble and she needs to find a way to give her a boost in popularity. Unfortunately, with the election around the corner this is going to be easier said than done. Ray’s not going to have a lot of time in order to make a move and to go along with that, it doesn’t think that Sam is going to give him a lot of time to think about anything. She’s in act-now mode and it’s not altogether clear at the moment if he is ready to move at that same level.
One of the problems for Ray as a whole entering this episode is that he’s got some distractions elsewhere, whether it be when it comes to Mickey or in his daughter Bridget’s personal life. It wouldn’t be a true Ray Donovan season unless there was a chance to see him almost drown under the weight of all of the various responsibilities that he’s taken on, and here we are. We don’t know how exactly Ray is going to emerge from all of this but one way or another, he’ll figure it out. After all, he’s figured out a way to do that for the bulk of the series so far, even if the consequences have been at times fairly devastating.
Remember this, though: The promo below is just scratching the surface of what is to come in this episode, which is in turn just scratching the surface at the entirety of this season. we are not even at the halfway point of the season just yet so things will only get busier, and we’re not sure that the Mayoral election in general is going to be a huge component in the season for too much longer. Given that we are only a couple of weeks away, the rest of this season is going to have to be paced super-slow in order for that to make a whole lot of sense.
