This week, show executive producer Ildy Modrovich posted photographic proof on social media, which makes it abundantly clear that we are at the end of another fantastic era. The fourth season was made because of the fans who worked tireless in order to ensure that their favorite devil found a way back on the air. It’s a labor of love and of tremendous passion, and we hope that it pays off with the strongest season to date. There are only ten episodes for the upcoming fourth season, which is set to premiere on Netflix presumably at some point in 2019.
Obviously, learning about the end of season 4 production-wise does raise a number of questions in terms of a season 5, with the main one being this: Will it happen? While it’s far too early to know the answer to that what we will say here is the same thing we’ve said all along: Netflix probably didn’t save Lucifer just to cancel it again. In a perfect world, we see them renewing it for at least a few more seasons similar to what they did with Longmire.
Yet, we do also realize that this is not a perfect world and Netflix has gotten harder to please over the past year with some of their shows’ performance. They’re quicker to cancel than they used to be, as evidenced by the end of Everything Sucks!, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, American Vandal, and most recently The Good Cop. They aren’t afraid of cancellations, so if you are a diehard Lucifan, the best thing that you can do is start spreading the world now and try to generate buzz for a very-fun show that deserves to have an opportunity to tell another season.
If it doesn’t get that, we do still remain confident that Modrovich, Joe Henderson, and the rest of the staff left nothing on the table. They recognize the gift that they’ve gotten with a season 4 and we think that they probably delivered on a lot of awesome stories … but we wouldn’t be surprised if there was some sort of tease left open for a possible season 5. Why not give everyone something more to look forward to? It doesn’t have to be as enormous a cliffhanger like what we got at the conclusion of season 4, but just a little taste of what could come if another season is ordered.
