Following tonight’s finale, do you want to know some early speculation in regards to a Last Week Tonight with John Oliver season 6 premiere date? Rest assured that CarterMatt has that for you that within this very article!
Let’s kick things off here with a reminder that there will, in fact, be a Last Week Tonight season 6 over at HBO. This is something that was first announced a good while ago, and for good reason given how successful this show has really proven itself to be. The ratings for the first five seasons have been really great and beyond that, this show is as critically-acclaimed as they come. It’s won a massive amount of awards over the years and there is no clear sign that this is going to change any time soon. It’s smart, it’s funny, and beyond all of that it’s also extremely well-written and researched. While it’s not a news show (this is comedy, after all), you do often learn something about the world around you by watching this.
Now that we’ve said all of this, let’s start to move forward and ponder over the other aforementioned question: When season 6 will actually premiere! This is not a typical late-night show; not only does Oliver only do one show a week, he also does approximately 30 shows a year. There are only so many different shows that he can really do without having the proper research done in advance! Producing these shows takes a great deal of time and effort; of course we want more and are willing to wait if the end product is as good as it’s been this season.
Typically, Last Week Tonight premieres in February and with that in mind, it makes a good bit of sense to assume the same thing for season 6. The most-painful part of all of this is, of course, the notion of having to wait a good two-plus months between seasons. It’s hardly as though news takes a break during all of that! That is especially true given this administration, one in which there is so much stuff that happens during the week that it’s almost hard to keep track. We mean this somewhat facetiously, but we actually do wonder whether or not it’s going to be hard for the writers to adjust to a post-Trump world in which the news cycle dramatically changes from day to day?
When will HBO announce the Last Week Tonight premiere date?
Probably by the start of the new year. We’re not anticipating it coming too much earlier than that, though of course it would be rather nice in the event that it did. During the hiatus, we’re just going to have to go back and watch some of our favorite segments, including the one on U.S. territories, and just for the sake of comedy the zebras in Paraguay.
