Elseworlds teaser: Grant Gustin plays Oliver Queen (well, sort of)

Elseworlds

The CW today unveiled the second official teaser for the upcoming Elseworlds crossover event airing in December. Yesterday, the first one featured Stephen Amell playing a version of Barry Allen — or at least one who everyone felt was Barry Allen. (Watch this teaser over at the link here.)

Now, we’ve got another teaser now via the network and this one puts Grant Gustin front and center — though in a slightly different form. The network couldn’t just have Barry waking up, as Oliver, in bed with Felicity. For starters, the Arrow storyline is in a complicated place these days. Beyond just that, Barry Allen the character has a history with Felicity and, in some weird parallel universe, maybe that’s actually believable.

Anyhow, here you see Barry suddenly finding himself in the midst of a training session with Diggle, one in which he’s able to physically impose himself on the guy. Barry seems shocked to be there, much as Oliver seemed shocked to be in bed with Iris. With that, we have to think that these two characters are well aware of the fact that their situation is strange and not exactly normal. They may spend the majority of this crossover trying to find a way back to each other, but that’s going to be rather hard when they are in one another’s bodies and nobody else really seems to understand that.

There are of course many other strange things going on that need to be explored, whether it be the Black Suit Superman, getting a chance to see John Wesley Shipp wear a similar version to his old Flash suit, or the sudden appearance of Batwoman. Gotham City’s name has been uttered throughout the Arrowverse over time, but this is going to be the first time we could actually end up seeing it. We’re not sure how much Ruby Rose will be in this crossover, but that’s mostly been because of the fact that The CW hasn’t promoted her all that much beyond a first-look photo a little bit earlier this fall. Given that the plan here eventually is to give this character her own series, we definitely do think that she is important. This is the only chance you’re going to have in order to introduce her … and also get fans of the other Arrowverse shows on board with her right away.

Elseworlds officially kicks off on December 9 with The Flash at a special time. Following that airing, we will see the crossover transition over to then Arrow and then also Supergirl at the end. The schedule is being swapped around mostly for story reasons, and it is only for this one week.
