The Bachelor mansion narrowly escapes Woolsey Fire

Bachelor

While The Bachelor mansion may have burned as a result of the horrific Woolsey Fire this weekend, the home itself is still standing.

According to a new report coming in via Entertainment Weekly, the famed Agoura Hills property (which is actually privately-owned and rented out to production for the ABC series) managed to withstand the damage that did destroy many other homes across nearby communities. Reports over the weekend were that there was some damage to one of the home’s patios, and it has been confirmed that a smaller building on the property (known as “The Barn,” where production often congregates) was completely destroyed.

The most important thing to note here is that people are safe — home store memories, but they are far less important human life. Also, we recognize that The Bachelor / The Bachelorette are corny television shows — but they do offer some escapism and fun to people in difficult times.

As previously reportedThe Bachelor has already filmed the majority of its season starring Colton Underwood — typically, seasons don’t revisit the mansion after the first several weeks of filming. That will certainly be the case here. Given that production on The Bachelorette does not begin most likely until March, that does allot production and the property owners time to make any sort of necessary repairs. We don’t foresee there being any real issue when it comes to the show’s future. Production has used a different mansion before to kick off a season over the past ten years, but it is typically for a very specific reason. (Take, for example, Emily Maynard wanting to remain close to her daughter on the East Coast rather than go to the other side of the country.)

If we can go on a small rant here..

One of the more unfortunate trends this weekend has been people shaming some of the successful homeowners in the Malibu / Agoura Hills / Thousand Oaks areas for having big, expensive homes that burned down, just because they can afford more. Sure, it’s true that they may have wealth on their side and can repair their lives easier than most, they are still losing memories, homes, photographs and people are getting hurt. Isn’t it still a devastating life event whether you are rich or poor? Even with the Bachelor mansion, there are people who live here in the times in which production isn’t taking place. This is not just some enormous property that is only used for a couple of months out of the year. We wish that there was just a little more empathy and understanding for people, no matter where they are or how much money they have. Attacking someone after their house burns down seems to be one of the lowest of the low blows.

The Bachelor with Colton will officially start airing on ABC come January; stay tuned, as we will have some more updates on the subject as they start to roll in.
