Is This Is Us new tonight on NBC? On Jack, Vietnam, & season 3 episode 7

This Is Us season 2

For those of you who are wondering if This Is Us season 3 episode 7 is coming on the air tonight, prepare to get sad (though probably not as sad as you are actually watching the show).

NBC isn’t broadcasting the oh-so-teary family drama tonight, with the simple reason that the midterm elections are happening. Basically, everyone’s watching another thing people will probably cry about once it’s over. This is the network’s top-rated scripted show and with that, it makes zero sense to try to compete against something as big as the midterm elections when there are PLENTY of other weeks in which they can put new episodes on the air. That starts next week, when This Is Us is going to air a new episode entitled “Sometimes.” Is that in the running for most-boring episode title of the year? Maybe, but knowing This Is Us this episode will have us all talking and tweeting that it’s one of the most brilliant titles of all time and we should be all bowing at the feet of executive producer Dan Fogelman.

Here’s what we know about “Sometimes” right now, title notwithstanding. This is an episode that will revisit Jack’s past in Vietnam, and hopefully touch on some of the major questions viewers have — think in terms of what happened to Nicky and the importance of the mystery woman and the necklace. There’s a chance here to actually tell two stories in the same place multiple decades apart; this episode will also feature Kevin heading to Vietnam in hopes of getting some answers, with Zoe at his side. All of a sudden, we’ve caught up to him when he was on the airplane at the end of the last season.

For those of you who are big flashback fans (which you really should be, given that there is really no other reason to watch this show), this episode also will feature Jack and Rebecca heading on a road trip to Los Angeles. This is an opportunity to see both their love story and Jack’s demons out in full force. Remember that this is not too long after his time in Vietnam; with that, the nightmares and the PTSD are very much present. There’s no real overpowering the demons that he has in his heart; that’s why “the horrors of war” is such a common phrase.

As for fans of the present, be prepared for hard times courtesy of Beth and Randall (Randall needs to realize that taking care of his wife is just as important as taking care of his kids) and also Miguel, who we will finally understand a little bit more. Is it time that This Is Us fans finally wrap Miguel in the same warm, loving embrace that they do everyone else? We’re feeling that way.
